About IATP
The Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (IATP) was established in 2007 by Dr. S.C. Parija, Former Director, JIPMER, Pondicherry; Former Vice Chancellor, Shri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry; and Professor Emeritus, NAMS, New Delhi, along with seven founder members. The Academy was founded with the aim of promoting research in the field of parasitology, encompassing key disciplines such as protozoology, helminthology, and entomology of tropical importance.
The 7th Annual Conference of the Uttar Pradesh Chapter of IATP marks a significant milestone. The primary objective of the U.P. Chapter is to enhance knowledge and research capabilities among microbiologists, parasitologists, and medical professionals. It also aims to bring together academicians and researchers across the state for meaningful scientific exchange and to foster professional development through conferences, workshops, and collaborative initiatives.
Over the years, numerous academic programs and conferences have been conducted across various medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, significantly contributing to the growth of parasitology as a specialized field. With increasing participation and enthusiastic involvement, the U.P. Chapter continues to expand its academic footprint and remains committed to promoting research, innovation, and excellence in tropical parasitology.

Department of Microbiology
The Department of Microbiology provides essential laboratory diagnostic services to support patient care and hospital infection control activities. Led by Prof. Dr. Saumya Singh, the department performs routine and specialized investigations for the diagnosis of bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
The department actively supports the Hospital Infection Control Program through surveillance of hospital-acquired infections, monitoring of antimicrobial resistance, hand hygiene audits, and assistance during outbreak situations.

Greetings to all members of the UP Chapter of the Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology.
I am delighted to learn that the 7th Annual Conference of the State UP Chapter of the IATP (UP-TROPACON 2026) will be held in the Department of Microbiology, United Institute of Medical Sciences (UIMS), Prayagraj on 3rd and 4th July 2026. The conference will be held under the strong and dynamic leadership of Dr. Saumya Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, UIMS, Prayagraj, UP.
UP-TROPACON 2026 is planning to host an academic programme with a theme on “From Sangam to Globe: The Evolution of Medical Parasitology.” The programme will include newer developments in epidemiology and public health in the field of parasitology. The conference will also include workshops, guest lectures, oral paper and poster presentations among others.
